The high production of plastic waste in these waters has led to microplastic contamination, which accumulates in the bodies of blood shells, a popular and economically valuable type of seafood. This study aims to analyze the shape, number of microplastics, polymers, and estimated microplastic consumption for humans who consume blood shells in Belawan waters.

Microplastic analysis of blood shell samples was done using a 10% KOH solution, followed by microplastic identification using a stereo microscope.

The estimated number of microplastic consumed by the people of Medan through blood shells reaches 16.90 ± 2.53 MP per year.
