Introduction

In the world of academic research, collaboration is becoming increasingly important. With the rise of interdisciplinary research and the need for diverse perspectives, collaboration has become a key factor in producing high-quality research. However, the question remains: does collaboration lead to more citations and a greater impact on the research community? In this study, we aim to analyze the differences in the number of citations obtained by articles based on the type of authorship, namely single and collaboration, in the journal Ca-A Cancer Journal for Clinicians during the 2019-2021 period.

Methodology

This study uses a descriptive-comparative approach by analyzing the citation data from 120 articles obtained through documentation techniques. The data was collected from the journal Ca-A Cancer Journal for Clinicians, which is a reputable and well-established journal in the field of cancer research. The study focuses on the period of 2019-2021, which allows us to analyze the trends and patterns of collaboration and citation in recent years.

Results

The results of the study show that the number of articles published with collaboration (81 articles) is more than a single authorship (39 articles) in that period. This suggests that collaboration is becoming increasingly popular among researchers in the field of cancer research. However, further analysis shows that articles with a single writer get 91 citations, while articles with collaboration writers get 87,254 citations. Although the number of citations with collaboration writers is higher, the relative impact of citation (RCI) produced by a single author is 0.003, while the collaboration writer reaches 1.48. RCI is an indicator that measures the influence and visibility of research in a global perspective.

Discussion

The results of the study suggest that collaboration in writing scientific articles can increase the impact of relative citations, although the total number of citations may not always be higher. This shows that collaboration between researchers can help improve the quality of research and visibility at the international level. However, it is also important to note that the number of citations does not always reflect the quality of research. Other factors such as research topics, methodologies, and publications in high-reputable journals can also affect the number of citations.
