Determinant of Pre-Menopausal Women's Anxiety in Rawang Lama Village, Rawang Panca Arga District, Asahan Regency in 2014

Introduction

Anxiety experienced by pre-menopausal women is a common phenomenon that is often associated with the physical and emotional changes that occur before menopause. These changes can cause worries about becoming unhealthy, unfit, or no longer attractive, leading to a significant impact on the quality of life. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of women experiencing menopause worldwide is increasing from year to year, making it an important concern in the context of public health.

Background

Research has shown that anxiety in pre-menopausal women is influenced by various factors, including physical, emotional, and social changes. However, the specific factors that contribute to anxiety in this population are not well understood. In this study, we aimed to analyze the factors that influence anxiety in pre-menopausal women in Rawang Lama Village, Rawang Panca Arga District, Asahan Regency in 2014.

Methodology

This study used an analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach, involving the population of all pre-menopausal women aged 40 to 50 years in the village, as many as 179 people. The sample was taken using the simple random sampling method, with a total of 103 respondents. The data was collected using a questionnaire that assessed the level of anxiety, physical changes, sexual changes, and social changes.

Results

The results showed that 72.8% of pre-menopausal women experience anxiety, while 27.2% did not feel it. This study identified a significant effect of physical changes with a value of P = 0.004 and sexual changes with a value of P = 0.002 on the level of anxiety. However, there was no significant effect of social change (p = 0.092). Interestingly, sexual changes have proven to be the most influential variables, with the coefficient B = 1,312, showing that the impact of this change is very strong on the anxiety experienced.

Discussion

The results of this study highlighted the importance of health education for women in the pre-menopausal phase. The Health and Health Department should provide accurate and complete information about the physical and sexual changes that occur during this transition period. With better knowledge, women are expected to understand the process of menopause as a natural part of life, so as to reduce the anxiety they feel.

Support from the family also plays an important role in reducing the anxiety of pre-menopausal women. With a better understanding of the changes that will be faced, women can develop positive mindset and overcome worries that might arise. Social activities involving women in the community can also be an effective means of sharing information and experience, thus creating an environment that is more supportive for them.

Conclusion

Finally, it is very important to build mental and physical readiness for pre-menopausal women. Increased knowledge, social support, and positive attitude towards change are the key to dealing with this transition better. Thus, women in the village of Rawang Lama and elsewhere can face menopause not only with worries, but with an optimistic attitude that supports their health and welfare.

Mental and Physical Readiness: Pre-menopausal women should be encouraged to build mental and physical readiness for the transition, through increased knowledge, social support, and positive attitude towards change.
