Introduction

One of the ways to achieve this welfare is through the development of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), particularly in the tourism sector. The Berastagi traditional fruit market is a significant attraction that offers great potential to improve the welfare conditions of MSMEs. This study aims to identify the conditions of welfare and factors that affect the welfare of MSME actors in the Berastagi traditional fruit market.

Methodology

This study employed a qualitative approach to collect data through interviews with five MSME actors in the tourism sector, staff of the Karo Regency Tourism and Culture Office as a key informant, and a family member of the MSME actors as additional informants. The data collection techniques included literature studies, observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis was carried out qualitatively to draw conclusions.

Results

The results showed that MSMEs in the Berastagi traditional fruit market, in general, have reached a good level of welfare, although there are still variations in their welfare conditions. The welfare is measured based on eight indicators determined by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The study identified several factors that affect the welfare of MSMEs in this sector, namely material, physical, mental, and spiritual factors.

Material Factor

Material factors become one of the important elements in determining the welfare level of MSMEs. The level of income and various families' needs can create significant differences in welfare conditions. Some MSMEs may have high income from the sale of their products, while others are still struggling to meet basic needs. This creates disparity in welfare among SMEs.
