Introduction

The city of Langsa is home to numerous traditional boarding schools, also known as pesantren, which rely heavily on well water as their primary source of water. However, the quality of this well water is often questionable, failing to meet the necessary physical, chemical, and bacteriological standards that ensure safe health practices. This can have a significant impact on the health of students, leading to complaints of diseases such as digestive disorders and skin problems. This study aims to analyze the quality of well water and user behavior related to complaints of diseases experienced by students in traditional boarding schools in the region.

Methodology

The research conducted is an analytical survey with a latitude cutting study design. A total of 18 well water samples were taken from various traditional boarding schools in Langsa, while 92 water users respondents were chosen proportionally with random sampling techniques. The data collected includes primary data, namely the results of examination of physical, chemical, and bacteriological quality of water, as well as user behavior obtained through a questionnaire. Secondary data are taken through documentation studies related to health conditions in pesantren. For data analysis, a double logistics regression test with a 95% confidence level is used.

Results

The results of laboratory tests show that in general, well water in the pesantren is colorless, odorless, and the average temperature reaches 29 °C. However, the average chemical and bacteriological index of water shows some worrying parameters, such as:

Turbidity: 5.15 NTU, which is above the recommended limit of 1 NTU.
Nitrate levels: 31.4 mg/L, which is above the recommended limit of 10 mg/L.
Escherichia coli: 5307.28/100 ml of water, which is a very high level of contamination.

The results of the double logistics regression test show that user action is the most dominant variable that affects the complaints of the disease.
