Analysis of the Implementation of Tuberculosis Management Policy at Andam Dewi Health Center, Andam Dewi District, Central Tapanuli Regency in 2023

Introduction

Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious public health problem that causes a high level of morbidity, disability, and death. According to data, the tuberculosis case notification level in Central Tapanuli Regency in 2019 reached 214 cases per 100,000 population. Therefore, the implementation of TB control policies is very important to overcome this problem. This study aims to analyze how the TB control policy was implemented at the Andam Dewi Health Center, Andam Dewi District, Central Tapanuli Regency, with a qualitative descriptive research method conducted between August 2023 and March 2024.

Background of the Study

TB is a major public health problem in many countries, including Indonesia. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there were 10 million new TB cases worldwide in 2020, and 1.5 million people died from TB. In Indonesia, TB is a significant health problem, with a high prevalence of TB cases, particularly in rural areas. The Central Tapanuli Regency is one of the regions in Indonesia that has a high incidence of TB.

Research Methods

This study relies on data obtained through in-depth interviews with health workers and related parties at the Puskesmas. The research method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive research method, which aims to describe the implementation of TB control policies at the Andam Dewi Health Center.

Research Findings

1. Communication Variables

In the aspect of communication, research found that coordination between organizations went well. Information about tuberculosis has been disseminated effectively, with high transmission, clarity, and consistency. This shows that there is a good effort in delivering health messages to the public about the dangers and handling of TB.

Therefore, an increase in the number of health workers and the provision of adequate facilities is very necessary.

This is important to increase the effectiveness of the team in managing TB handling.

The addition of personnel in TB prevention services will strongly support the success of this policy. With these steps, it is expected that the management and control of tuberculosis at the Andam Dewi Health Center can be done better, thereby reducing the incidence of TB in the community.

This study has several limitations. Firstly, the study was conducted in a single Puskesmas, which may not be representative of other Puskesmas in the region. Secondly, the study relied on in-depth interviews with health workers and related parties, which may not be representative of the views of the community. Finally, the study was conducted in a qualitative descriptive research method, which may not provide a comprehensive understanding of the implementation of TB control policies.
