Introduction

In the fast-paced digital era, the use of the internet is increasingly widespread, encouraging the emergence of various innovations, including in the field of payment. One of them is e-money, an electronic payment method that offers convenience and efficiency. The use of e-money has become a popular trend among young people, including students. However, the factors that influence the interest of students in using e-money are not yet fully understood. This study aims to investigate the factors that influence the interest of students of the University of North Sumatra (USU) in using e-money.

Research Objectives

This study aims to:

Analyze the simultaneous effects of the five factors on USU students' interest in using e-money.
Analyze the partial effect of each factor on USU students' interest in using e-money.
Investigate the relationship between the dependent variable (interest in using e-money) and independent variables (five factors studied).

Methodology

This study uses primary data collected through surveys to USU students. The analysis method used is multiple linear regression to determine:

Relationship direction between the dependent variable (interest in using e-money) and independent variables (five factors studied). Correlation coefficient and Determination coefficient to measure the strength of the relationship between variables. Positive or negative relationship of each independent variable of the dependent variable.

Results

The results showed that the perception of suitability (X5) is the most dominant factor in influencing USU students' interest in using e-money.

Discussion

This study provides several important insights:

Conformity Perception: This factor shows that USU students tend to be interested in using e-money if they feel that this payment method matches the lifestyle and their daily needs.

Other factors: Although the perception of the most dominant compatibility, other factors such as technological service features, affordability, security, and social norms also have an important role in determining the interests of USU students.

Campus Role: Universities can play a role in encouraging e-money adoption by providing services and facilities that support the use of e-money in the campus environment.

Conclusion

The results of this study can be useful for:

Financial institutions and e-money service providers: This research helps them understand the needs and preferences of students in using e-money. USU Students: This research provides information about factors that can encourage or hamper interest in using e-money. Government and stakeholders: This research can be an input in an effort to encourage financial literacy and digitalization of payments in Indonesia.

Limitations

This study has several limitations, including:

The study only focuses on USU students and may not be generalizable to other universities.
The study only investigates the factors that influence the interest of students in using e-money and may not consider other factors that may influence the use of e-money.

Future Research Directions

This research opens opportunities for further research with broader and in-depth scope. For example, research can be done to analyze the effect of other factors that are not discussed in this study, or comparing USU students' interests with students at other universities in Indonesia.
